Our trekking
tours in the jungle
are the main reason for coming
to Cabañas del Rio.
We specialize in
selecting outstanding routes
for you to enjoy walking through
the primary rain forest, experiencing
great wild life and beautiful
sights.
You can watch local birds,
plants, flowers and, with
some luck, you might see some
wild mammals. Local guides
and a biologist (English speaking)
will provide you with scientific
explanations during our walks.

is rich in flora and fauna.
Orchids, bromeliads, helicons
and primary trees are among
the many flora species. Also,

Orchids
are one of largest family
of flowering plants, occurring
worldwide in many ecosystems.
In Ecuador they can be found
at high altitude regions as
well as in the lower tropical
rainforests, showing the highest
diversity in the clouded forests.
Many orchids grow as epiphytes
in trees and have interesting
leaves as in this picture.

There
are 1616 species of birds
recorded in Ecuador, which
represent 19% of the world’s
total bird population, all
in a country that occupies
less than .01% of the world’s
landmass!
Ecuador is the ideal country
for a bird watching expedition,
and Puerto Quito is particularly
good for this purpose with
over 400 beautiful and colorful
bird species. You
be the judge!!
